Has someone thought of this yet?

I'm in the part of my pregnancy where I don't sleep as deeply as I used to. Part of this is because I halfway wake up at various times during the night to shift positions. Since I'm waking up more, I think I tend to be more aware of my dreams and remember them. Most of them aren't anything special, although a couple nights ago, I had this really cool one. I think I was at a conference or something and I was going to fix myself a cup of coffee from a self-serve coffee machine. It kind of resembled a fountain drink dispenser, and one spout had the coffee, one had the milk, but the other spouts had all kinds of fancy options. I think one had whipped cream, one had a mint whipped cream, and another had chocolate mint shavings. It was a pretty great coffee experience, and it made me wonder why something like this doesn't exist. It would be pretty amazing if it did, and I'll bet it would be a big hit too.

Note that for all you non-coffee drinkers, I'm sure that we could make one of the spouts a hot-chocolate spout. That would be pretty awesome with the mint whipped cream.

Snow!

I will admit, I don't trust the weatherpeople down here when they try to predict snow. They have given us false hope way too many times for me to believe them when they say we're going to get snow. So anyway, on Sunday and Monday, the weatherpeople were all saying how on Monday night/early Tuesday morning, we were going to get anywhere between 1-5" of snow, depending on the county. Well, this time they got it right, and yesterday, we woke up to a couple inches or so of snow! I was so happy. I still went to school, because UNC was still open, and Chapel Hill Transit was still running. However, my afternoon class was cancelled, so I did come home a bit earlier than normal, which is always nice.

The snow is still around today because we had very cold temps last night, and I'm not even sure if we're above freezing right now. In any case, everything looks pretty, and I hope it stays around for a little bit longer. We don't get much snow down south, so this is a real treat for us!

He's Got Fluid

There was an episode of the TV show Scrubs a couple years ago or so, where one of the interns did a really funny beat-box number entitled "He's Got Fluid", dedicated to a patient with fluid in his lungs. This past week, Ben has been sick with pneumonia, and as the chest x-ray from Thursday showed, he too has "got fluid." Actually Ben is doing much better than he was this time last week, as his fever is gone and he is not coughing as much or experiencing gurgling in his chest when he breathes. It seems like the antibiotics and inhaler are doing their job. We've also been keeping our distance from one another and trying to wash our hands a lot and disinfect things we touch (like the TV remote) so that Ben doesn't re-infect himself and so that I don't get sick.

For fun viewing, I have posted the link to the YouTube clip of "He's Got Fluid."

Healthy skin-is is only a women's issue?

I will readily admit that I do not avidly follow today's latest fashions and such. But occasionally if I see something interesting online or on the Today show, I'll take a look. Anyway, I was recently reading an article about proper facial skin health and care, and I was thinking about how pretty much all of these articles are geared towards women. I guess it's because we are always trying to find ways to keep ourselves looking 10 years younger and such. But seriously, why does it always have to be just about women's skin? Shouldn't it be okay for guys to want to care for their skin too? I'm guessing that most guys would rather not get acne or skin cancer either, and I'll be honest, the whole leathery sun-weathered look is really not all that attractive. So if a guy wants to use moisturizing face wash and sunscreen, he should do so proudly without judgement. However, don't get a facial-they're not really all that worth it.

Last day of freedom

Today is my last free weekday, because on Monday, the spring semester begins. In reality, my day is not totally free; I do actually have a physiology homework assignment that I have to have ready to present at the first class on Monday, and I need to work on an abstract that is due on Thursday. So I guess today is more like a work-from-home day.

In other school news, I submitted a manuscript for publication. Yeehaw! It is a manuscript that is based on my masters thesis project from last spring. We'll see what happens!
